Game 5: Elimination Game - Take 2!

I haven't updated this blog in awhile because I've been the Senators fan blogger on the Molson Sixpack for TheScore.ca website. Check it out here.

Just as in rounds 1 and 2, the Ottawa Senators will have the opportunity to finish off the Sabres in 5 games. I feel pretty confident that this will happen and here's 6 reasons why:

1. Emery will put in a better performance.
2. The Pizza line will have a better game.
3. The pressure's back on Buffalo to win at home.
4. Even though he's lost 3 games, Miller has been very good and is due for a bad game.
5. The Senators will carry over the momentum they had for the last half of Game 4.
6. And last but not least... Buffalo is cursed to NEVER win a championship.

Senators snag Comrie!

YES! I'd take Comrie over Nedved any day of the week! Sure, it cost us Kaigorodov, but that kid was the shits while he was here. I hope he's in the lineup tonight against the Sabres.

This is a great move by Muckler in my view. At least for the short term. We'll have to wait and see if Kaigorodov ever amounts to anything in the NHL.

JC out.

2007 Wishlist

Here it is. The 2007 Ottawa Senators Wishlist (from a fan's perspective):

1. A first round sweep of the Leafs (unlikely since Ottawa would have to finish 1st to matchup with Toronto)
2. Someone looking for a 3 million dollar backup goaltender (comes with a Stanley Cup ring).
3. Twenty more games against the Leafs (that would be enough to clinch 1st in the east)
4. A new super virus that only infects 6'7" defencemen from Slovakia.
5. No more Heatley in the shootouts (unless they allow someone to pass him the puck for a one-timer)
6. Lower the Pizza Pizza goal trigger to 4 from 6.
7. A new special teams coach to fix our crappy PK and PP.
8. Less home games (8-9-1 home record vs. 13-9-1 road record)
9. A trade where Ottawa comes out on top (You're due for a good one Muckler!)
And last but not least...
10. Some consistency

Nov-30: Florida 0 @ Ottawa 6

It seems that the hockey world has finally exited the Twilight Zone.

The Sens are now 7-3 in their last 10 games. Emery logged a shutout and the fans got free pizza. I'm a little surprised that Murray went back to Emery right away. He needs to ride each goaltender until they lose or get tired. Baby steps for Martin Garbage I guess. Looks like we have another Rhodes on our hands. Why can't we get a goaltender without confidence problems?

The Leafs are 4-5-1 in their last 10, and this is with their captain back in the lineup! Yay!

Nov-17: Ottawa 2 @ New Jersey 3

Another familiar "close, but no cigar" game for the Senators. After falling behind 3-0 after 2 periods, the Sens rallied with 2 goals but couldn't get the tying one past Brodeur.

This game could have easily been a win for Ottawa considering the number of goal posts that were hit. But instead it was another loss, securing their hold on 14th spot in the eastern conference and 6 points out of a playoff spot.

Next up, Buffalo tonight in Ottawa.

Will we see the Ottawa Senators that beat Buffalo on the road earlier in the week?

I don't care as long as:
a) they play a full 60 minutes
b) Emery is still in nets

Nov-15: Ottawa 4 @ Buffalo 2

Wow. Biggest win of the year tonight. I was so happy to see Emery in nets!

Murray better not go back to Gerber unless Emery loses a limb in practice. Ride the Razor until he puts in a bad performance and then go back Martin Garbage and see if some time off doesn't help him find his game.

The Sens win a game that they:
a) didn't score first
b) trailed in the third period (2-1)

I know that Buffalo didn't have Miller and Afinogenov, but we're missing Redden and Biron hadn't lost a game yet this year. We had some luck on that empty netter, but good things will happen when you work hard.

So... Muckler and Murray live to see another game, and maybe the players managed to stall any trades that might have been in the works.

Next up - Devils on Friday. I doubt we'll see Brodeur get pulled again. New Jersey is playing great team defence so this will be another huge test for Ottawa.
